PT – Grocery, Dairy, Frozen Clerk

Summary of Responsibilities 

The afternoon & evening grocery/dairy/frozen clerk is responsible for providing customers with quality grocery items in a friendly and courteous manner, while ensuring the grocery/dairy/frozen departments are stocked and presentable. 

Essential Duties 

The grocery/dairy/frozen clerk plays an important role in the ongoing functions of the grocery/dairy/frozen departments. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs. The essential duties and responsibilities of the position include: 

  • Asks customers if they need assistance and suggests additional sales in the grocery/dairy/frozen departments 

  • Accurately stocks products within the grocery/dairy/frozen departments, which includes assisting with unloading delivery trucks when they arrive and stocking products either to the backroom or floor, depending on inventory 

  • Monitors products being stocked to ensure they meet or exceed customer expectations 

  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of products provided by the department 

  • Ensures State and County safety and sanitation standards are met with all equipment, surfaces, and floors within the department and the proper methods are used when handling food

  • Make a bale at night when necessary

  • Make sure sale items are filled for next morning

Skills and Abilities 

Based on the essential duties and responsibilities of the position, the grocery/dairy/frozen clerk should have a number of skills and abilities: 

  • Sound organizational, time management skills, and attention to detail 

  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills, well-developed verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work both as an individual contributor and a team member 

  • The ability to effectively prioritize responsibilities and meet assigned deadlines 

  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment 

  • Flexibility to work some day shifts when needed


Education, Experience, and Other Requirements 

Based on the responsibilities of the position, the grocery/dairy/frozen clerk is required to have: 

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards 

  • Knowledge of available grocery 

Physical and Environmental 

The grocery/dairy/frozen clerk is located within a retail grocery environment and may experience both hot and cold temperatures throughout the working day. Physical requirements include: 

  • Regularly lifting up to 50 pounds

  • Ability to push, pull, bend, lift, and twist
